Insurance isn’t always the most exciting of subjects. We all need it, we all buy it, but we don’t think too much about it – except when it comes to the cost of our premiums. As customers we’ve become more sophisticated in the way we approach searching for insurance; we get online and we review pricing structures and then vote with our wallets. Yet, shouldn’t our insurers be offering us better value for money? Shouldn’t they be examining all of our needs and then offering solutions to meet those needs? Surely a single insurer should be able to offer something that exactly fits our circumstances and make that offer the best value for money?

Insurance Software – A Better Approach to Insurance

One of the factors holding some insurance brokers back is that they lack the right tools for the job. Insurance companies were early adopters of software technology, it gave them a much better way to analyze our data and to assess the risks they were insuring. The trouble is that early adoption is now a curse for the consumer.

Early computer systems simply couldn’t handle all of our data. So insurers developed multiple systems to try and meet our needs. That was great in those days because it meant that despite the lack of coordination our risks were being assessed fairly. However, computers have come a long way in a short period of time and that’s no longer good enough.

If the insurer we choose can’t access and collate all of our data – they can’t possibly work out what the best offering would be for us. In essence we’re paying separately for all of our needs rather than having them combined for our convenience. That means we’re paying for several sets of administration, the maintenance and operation of several systems, etc. as part of our premium. Don’t we deserve better value for our money than that?

There is, of course, a solution. There are new tools for insurance companies that allow them to manage all your data in a single system that’s been designed to connect the dots between our different needs and enable the insurer to examine how to give us the value for money we deserve.

Those systems also offer other advantages. When all your data is joined up it’s simple for the insurer to start examining the way your policies overlap and start tailoring your coverage to be more effective for the money you invest in insurance. Tailoring is a good thing but in many instances it comes at a price but if an insurer is using the right software – the cost of this tailoring is actually less than the lack of tailoring they offer today. That’s because they can cut their maintenance and administration costs for several systems and focus on one instead.

Insurers can also improve their overall level of customer service by keeping our data in a single repository. There’s no need for lengthy phone calls to resolve an issue – a few mouse clicks and an agent should have a complete picture of our needs.

So when you start thinking about renewing your insurance – you might want to ask your insurance company about the tools they have in place. After all saving money and getting better products is something we’d all appreciate right?

If you’ve been out of work for a long time and are about to start your brand new amazing job, you may have some slight trepidation about adjusting to work life. It’s something most people end up going through at some point, how do you go from watching daytime TV to working as a business accountant?. Here’s some advice to ensure a smooth transition back into employment.

Despite your best efforts, eventually over time you will lose the structured lifestyle you build up in your last job. More days are spent in pyjamas, you don’t open your eyes until gone lunch and you end up staying late watching rubbish TV. This is all well and good when you’re unemployed, but it isn’t exactly suited to most jobs. Even for shift work you need to have some routine and you’ll soon see the benefits of it.

The type of job that will hurt most will be the 9 – 5. You’re going to need to start getting up at the same time every day and getting a decent sleep every night. The first problem to overcome is changing your sleep pattern. The difficulty of this will depend on your situation. If you’ve got the job but don’t start for a month you have plenty of time to ease yourself back into an acceptable sleep pattern. Unfortunately, not everyone gets this luxury. It’s very likely you could be start in a matter of days and that’s going to be a problem.

You just have to do your best over the coming days to get back to a semblance of how you slept when you worked. You might think that staying up all night and the following day to fall asleep at a normal time will work, but it isn’t advisable. If you accidentally fall asleep in the day you’ll be even worse off and even if you did make it to the end, you’ll just sleep really late the next day. It’s just going to have to take some perseverance as you slowly adjust. Buy yourself some decent coffee and hold on in there until it becomes normal again.

The next problem is the routine itself. Even when you wake up nice and refreshed in the morning you will still be tempted by your old routine of eating cereal and playing video games. There is a scientific reason for this though, so don’t feel bad. It takes 66 days to form a habit properly. This is really easy when you’re forming the habit of doing nothing, but when you want to be productive it can be difficult is. What you need to remember is that one break from your new habit and all the work will be undone. Do everything you can to stick to it.

After such a long absence from a job it’s unlikely you’ll be lacking in enthusiasm. This is a great thing. It’ll encourage you to be cheery, confident and hardworking. Exactly what you need to be when you start a new role. What you don’t need is to be a ‘character’. It’s always good to get a sense of the balance in the office and you don’t want to start upsetting people straight away. Just let yourself relax into the job and your personality will show itself naturally.

The whole experience will be nerve-wracking and a bit of a struggle, but think about it. In a months time or so you’ll wonder what all the fuss is about as you just get on with it.

Virtually everyone in the modern age has, at some point or another, needed to interact with those devices we both love and hate: Printers. And inside every good printer is a set of good cartridges. Those little plastic boxes full of ink are what make our information-based world go around, but have you ever you thought of where they come from or how they are made? This can be discovered as you look into the life cycle of toner cartridges and how these seemingly complicated gadgets are assembled.

1. What makes up an ink cartridge? A lot goes into an ink cartridge (besides just the ink of course). Having a reservoir to store ink in is just the beginning as you also need a mechanism to effectively and consistently move the ink from the reservoir and then place it onto the print head to recreate in tangible from the data sent from the computer. Apart from the ink reservoir, a print cartridge includes a heating element, a resistor and nozzle.

The variation to these parts is Epson print cartridges which use piezoelectric crystals in each nozzle rather than a heating element. When a charge is given to these crystals, they change shape or size and thereby push a drop of ink from the nozzle. This process allows the use of inks which do not respond as well to heat, as well as the production of smaller ink drops.

Most printers also usually include a computer chip or other electronic component embedded into the cartridge that allow communication between the cartridge itself and the printer, allowing the printer to send back information to the computer regarding that status of the cartridge. This includes ink-level, heat, as well as other factors.

2. How a printer works. The above parts work together via a signal being given by the printer which then sends a small current through the small metal plate or resistor which warms it allowing the ink in contact with the plate to vaporize into the form of an inky steam bubble within the nozzle. Following which, ink droplets are pushed out of the nozzle in the cartridge and onto the paper, and all in a fraction of a millisecond.

3. Types of ink cartridges. Over the years ink cartridges have changed for greater efficiency, accessibility and usability. The type of ink cartridges have also changed, whereas in the past ink cartridges were relegated to black and color, now many printers (photo printers most especially) have several different and separate ink cartridges based on different colors. As such, there are now various color cartridges that come together to represent primary colors. Their design is such that the cartridges must be replaced singularly. This innovation makes it so that blue ink running dry won’t immediately require the replacement of the blue ink cartridge, but instead only red and black are necessary to achieve the same colors.

All in all, printer cartridges are actually extremely complex mechanisms that we take for granted as simple, but the devices which they consist of and the devices which they interact with are anything but.

With James Bond turns 50, the British surge dominating film, television and music, is more than an invasion, it’s a conquest. Luckily for us, submission has been a blast.

Having some doubts?

Are you kidding, the blockbuster stars portraying Superman, Batman and Spider-Man are all English blokes! Even Wolverine’s Australian (just like Naomi Watts & Nicole Kidman).

Look back and you’ll realize, the wave that kicked off with Kiera Knightley and Harry Potter, picked up steam with Ricky Gervais, LOTR, Jason Statham and Dr. Who, then went into overdrive via The King’s Speech, Benedict Cumberbatch and the emergence of Michael Fassbender.

Right now, ABC is developing American adaptations of several U.K. comedies, while Fox is giving it a go with their version of Gavin & Stacey. Even NBC is hoping for blighty gold, turning the 2002 Hugh Grant film, About a Boy, into a new series.

Clearly, winning our independence back in 1776 hasn’t kept the Brits from holding sway on screen. And that’s a good thing, because the jewel in the crown of British programming, and a feast for all, is the sumptuous and award-winning Downtown Abbey.

But what makes Downtown Abbey so great (aside from 28 major awards)?

Over 8 million Americans just watched the Season 3 finale, so there’s plenty of time to watch Downtown Abbey online and catch up before Season Four hits PBS’s rarified airwaves.

Having just completed its “third series” (Americans call them “seasons”), Downtown Abbey is an intricately woven tapestry chronicling the lives, loves and losses of the Crawleys, an upper crust noble family, consisting of Robert, the Earl of Grantham, his American wife, Cora, their daughters and the “commoner” working-class domestics whose drudgery keeps it all together.

It’s class warfare draped in pristine linen, with sharp dialogue, exquisite costuming, superb acting from a brilliant ensemble cast, set amid the sprawling estate of a real-life historic castle. While the show is set in 1923, but it feels current, like modern life, with all its complexities, viewed through a quaint, and expensive, looking glass.

If you haven’t seen it yet, or missed an episode, watch Downton Abbey online right now. All 25 episodes to-date are available to watch online. This show is a game-changer, like Mad Men, Walking Dead, or Game of Thrones, but with scandal, intrigue and back-stabbing all a little more refined.

What will Season Four bring to the banquet? Certainly who wouldn’t welcome more of newcomer Lily James, as wild child Rose MacClare, filling the void left by the stunning departure of Lady Sybil, played by the equally stunning Jessica Brown Findlay.

Shirley MacLaine will be reprising her role as Cora’s wealthy American mother, Martha Levinson and continue her verbally sparring match with Dame Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess. Though reports indicate the upcoming season will be highly focused on Lady Mary, even her downtrodden little sister, Lady Edith, will finally be getting a sex life.

Hugh Bonneville, who portrays Robert Crawley, the Earl of Grantham, recently quipped, “It’s Breaking Bad with tea instead of meth.”

Transferring files is not as straightforward as you may imagine, and many things can go wrong with the system, which is why using the professionals is recommended. Often the files which need to be transferred are large and produce high volume traffic. This can pose problems, and cause the response time to be slower.

The moment your business begins to file transfer you need to consider your options, and research the servers which are available. Handing the headache over to the experts is incredibly popular, and will save you time, money and effort in the future. You may think that you can cope with your file transfers every day, but after a while they will become time consuming.

This is why you need to spend time researching your file transfer possibilities and find the ideal solution for your business. You will need to look at the size of the files that you want to transfer, and the amount that you send in a day. Many servers are dedicated to high traffic businesses, which send large files.

However, they will also deal with your files regardless of the quantity that you want to send, making this an ideal option. The professionals will understand what they need to do to the files to make them compressed and easier to send. They will also ensure that the files are secure, and that only you, the server and the client have access to the files.

Every business is individual, which is why top quality servers will decide on your needs, and compile a package that suits your requirements. Although emails were once the best way to send files, this can be time consuming, which is why you need another option. Selecting a dedicated server to help with your file transfers is the best way to achieve results.

The servers on offer will guarantee that regardless of the size or style of your file, it reaches its destination quickly. Files are often of great importance, which is why it is necessary to choose the best server for the job, who can offer flexibility, and excellent packages in regards to payment options.

You do not want to sign up for a yearly subscription, if you only intend to send the occasional file to clients. Choosing a package that suits your needs and budget is essential, and will ensure that transferring the files is cost effective. You also need to research the different styles of file transfer as you need to ensure that the transfer is secure.

Whether you choose a SFTP or a FTP file transfer company you need to spend time researching the different possibilities. With the file transfers being taken care of, you can spend time on other areas of your business. All files will be protected, and secure at all times, ensuring that your business information remains private.
